About Bob
To the horror of my parents and co-workers, in 1990 I left a well-paying job in the computer industry to travel around the world for a year. Though others assumed I was "getting it out of my system," it turned out that travel was getting INTO my system. Since then I've lived in Hong Kong for a few years, done three round-the-world trips, and every few years I tend to leave a good job in order to hit the road again.
My wife Michelle and I (here shown out on a tiger safari in India, 2007) were once budget backpackers, but are now "midrange" travelers. I have a strong preference for exotic places ("where the women carry buckets on their heads"), and to my wife's bemusement I tend to view the hassles and challenges of third world travel as great entertainment. We live in the San Francisco area, and though I've been around Europe and done a trip or two to South America and Africa, my true love is Asia and the Middle East.
With this site I share with you my insights on travel planning and travel resources, and with great pleasure I'll also regale you with some of my favorite travel tales and photos. I hope you have as much fun using FatPassport as I've had in creating it!
By the way, a question I occasionally get is "why did you call it FatPassport?" Well, for US citizens, when your passport is full and has no room for more stamps, you can get additional pages inserted into your passport. So, when you see someone with a very fat US passport, you know that they have done A LOT of traveling!
Enjoy the site, and best wishes for a Fat Passport!
