Packing And Shopping Lists
As both my
wife Michelle and I have been fortunate enough to have assembled Fat Passports,
we can share with you all the tips about packing that we have learned the hard
way!
First to clear my conscience, I should say that I still feel terrible about howling with laughter at the huge pack that Michelle (then girlfriend, now wife) brought when she came out to Asia to meet me on my first trip around the world. From behind she looked like a backpack with legs. However, in her defense, she didn't have any good guidance as to what she should bring on a multi-month, round-the world trip. Hopefully we can now provide you this guidance!
First take
a look at our article “What To Take: Ten Tips On
Packing.” Then take a look at the detailed packlists below for men and women, and if needed, print the summary checklist to use when you are out shopping, or when you are actually packing your bag.
These packlists work for trips from two weeks to a year. They are optimized for travel in the third world, but work just fine for more sophisticated destinations as well - just reduce or eliminate the medical kit, and pack clothes that are a little nicer!
