Fantastic island getaway
Kaanapali, USA

Many Travelers? Huge Tourist Crowds
Likes: One of America’s best beaches
Dislikes: Very pricey; not a lot to do at night

Ka‘anapali is a gorgeous West Maui resort area home to several luxury hotels and condominiums built along one of the most beautiful beaches in the country.

Ka‘anapali Beach is a gorgeous, 3-mile long stretch of white sand that should meet all your needs for sun-bathing, relaxing, and people-watching. A paved concrete path runs along the entire length of the beach. Near the middle of the Ka‘anapali Beachwalk you'll find the Whalers Village, an open-air mall with over 90 shops and restaurants and a free museum that features whaling exhibits and artifacts.

The weather is gorgeous year round and water conditions are ideal for water sports of all kinds. Golf enthusiasts will find that the area has a great deal to offer with two gorgeous, 18-hole championship golf courses at the Ka‘anapali Golf Resort.

Those in the mood for some pampering can avail themselves of the many luxurious, world-class spa facilities. Couples will enjoy taking a stroll along the beach and watching the sunset.

Dining options include some 40 restaurants and a number of hotel luaus with dinner shows.

The area can get crowded, especially in the summer (lots of kids), and accommodations are pretty expensive. Couples and newlyweds looking for a romantic tropical getaway should avoid the summer months when the beaches and resorts are packed with families on vacation.

There’s not a lot to do at night, although there are an assortment of bars and nightclubs open until late on the weekends in nearby Lahaina, only a short drive away.

For most, a three night stay will be sufficient, but if you’re in need of more R&R then you’ll want to give it longer.
