Historical city in the northeast
Likes: History and historical sights
Boston was a critical spot as the United States was first coming together as a nation. Today it’s a charming city, and while travelers come primarily to see the various historical sights, it’s also a great place for a girl’s getaway or a family vacation.
Boston is the home of places and events that every American learned about in elementary school, and those with an appreciation of history can have a very meaningful visit here. Along Boston’s Freedom Trail you’ll find the site of the Boston Massacre, learn about the Boston Tea Party, see Paul Revere’s house, and visit the Old North Church (where a patriot famously signaled to Revere that “the British are coming.”) With great shopping (such as the famous Newberry Street boutiques), great nightlife, and some fantastic dining, Boston is a good spot for a girl’s getaway. Families also enjoy Boston, as in addition to the historical sights there’s a good aquarium, whale-watching, and sports teams about whom the locals are fanatic. Boston is an expensive town, and you probably won’t be raving about what a great deal you got on your hotel. So, while budget travelers won’t want to linger, it’s still a city that’s worth a good look regardless of your budget. Locals here tend to be pretty friendly. There are a slew of colleges and universities here (with Harvard the most famous), which helps the town keep a good youthful vibe. Take care of yourself and your belongings as you would in any big city, but otherwise Boston is a pretty safe place. Best times to visit are spring or fall. Summers are hot and crowded, and winters are intolerably cold for traveling. A stay of three days or so is sufficient to have a good look around. |
